Washington Fish and Wildlife is proposing moving the deadline down from beacon rock to the east tip of Skamania island for fishing for sturgeon from May 1 to July 15. This deadline only applies to fishing from a boat for sturgeon. This in effect will shut down our oversized fishery as well as any catch an release fishing in the popular horsetail falls area. The science supporting these changes in many of our opinions does not warrant such a drastic move. I would also like to ask you why is it ok to fish for sturgeon from the bank but not from a boat in an area that is designated as a spawning sanctuary and designed to protect spawning sturgeon. At this time we are not sure where Oregon stands on this, but at least in recent history they haven't seemed to be able to stand up to Washington and have a different opinion. It is for this reason that we need to let ODFW know where we stand and to let them know that we want them to stand up for us.
