I was just looking at admin Dan's avatar picture and it reminded me of a long time question that I haven't ever gotten a satisfactory answer for.
Do having bananas on board fishing boats for salmon and steelhead really unlucky? How much unlucky? Does it have to do with the scent bananas give off? Or is it just an ol-wives-tale? Thank you guys.

I really don't think that it is an issue. I have eaten many bananas and caught fish during that day. Some people are a little more superstitious than others.
I think we need to call in the dinamick duo of MythBusters. Heck they can find out almost anything it seems.

I have anchored next to boats that have been hot for several days running. On this day they had someone with a banana on board and the whole line got skunked. I was sitting in a hot line where the fish were thick, by rod did a funny thing and I reeled in. Hanging off my alvin was a banana peel...the line went dead instantly. I am a firm believer that bananas are bad mojo.

I've put fish in the boat with bananas present...granted they were in my cooler and I forgot they were there. Any (banana) experts out there willing to divulge any much needed info regarding the (banana) chemistry and how it effects your luck (or lack thereof)?

Ay Gary (Big Willie), don't you remember we caught some steelheads from the Wilson with an uncovered banana sitting right on the rower's tray? About 3 years ago, and I think Garrick was along? I'm not concerned about bananas. We took a bag of them on the springer flotilla 2 years ago and hooked 3, landing 2 springers (tied for top honors). I threw a couple of them in some other guy's boats that we knew - you should have seen 'em scramble and wash. ;D

One of my fishing parteners just bought a TJ that looks like a banana. We fished B10 last fall and he got 1 in his boat and my boat got 10. Maybe there is something to this banana thing. salmon hugger
