Double hook rig for bobber fishing eggs for Chinook.
Use 2 FIXED hooks. Same idea as boondoggling or trolling herring. You can leave the upper hook the way it is or do like I do and cut the upper hook off at the bend to keep it from jabbing my fingers when rebaiting. Just leaving the eye,, shank, knot, and egg loop. The reason for the 2 hook rig is to have the eggs on the upper hook and the stinger hook laying just below the eggs. If you only use one hook and put your eggs on it there is a chance that on a take down that you whiff the fish because the point of the hook is stuck in the eggs. With the 2 hook set up the bottom hook is not in the way of anything but lip. Give it a shot and hook more fish, but dont shair these tips on other boards, make them come here for them.

I've been using a "double hook " rig with jigs and it's been working great. I slide a #4 or #6 octopus style hook down the leader to my jig and hang the bait on it. This keeps the jig horizontal and the bite of the hook clear. Simulates whatever a jig simulates eating bait. Seems to have helped my hookup ratio. You have to keep the hook small in order to remain legal.

The Stinger hook below the Jig is called a Drano Lake special.... (or at least where I grew up)... works perfect!

Alot of people look at you and ask you are you nuts that can't be legal, well it is they used the same setup in the ocean for trolling for chinook and coho but they use herrin for it .

Dan,if you cut the point off the top hook, can you still run sandshrimp with the eggs? Great idea though,I'm going to try it real soon.

I cut the hook right at the start of the bend in the shank. If you want to add a shimp you will have to add it in the egg loop.

Dan, When you are running this way do you put the upper set up closer than 3-4 fingers to the lower hook?
I really like this set up. Does it also work when just plain drifting corky and yard also?

yes it helps to strech out the shrimp better for steelhead , I put the corky between the 2 hooks and it seem to float better that way , it sometimes stops the short strikes too.

When bobber fishing the bottom of the upper hook sits about an inch from the top of the bottom hook.
As far as drifting, I have never tried to drift my yard. Oh, you mean yarn. I don't normally use a double hook rig for drift fishing. I have caught plenty of fish on a double hook boondoggling rig though. I will try and get a picture uploaded tonight of what this looks like.

Upriver and Dan, Thanks for the help. I can very easily understand how it would help stretch out the shrimp..
Dan you crack me up. I love it when i leave myself open and someone catches me on it.. To funny.
I cant wait to see the picture.
Still want to know the distance between the two hooks??? Thanks for all the help.. I guess this is why you make the big bucks.

You can make it slide and it depends on you, 2" to 3 " no more than that , don't forget they have a big mouth too. big bait big fish and it stands true . If you can tie it up to make it slide thats the best way. If that don't help send me a e- mail and i'll help you out any way. jddeloa@pacifier.com Jeff
